Lime Rendering in Cardiff & South Wales

Our Story

Lime Rendering was founded with a singular vision: to provide South Wales with the highest quality lime rendering and plastering services, delivered by skilled craftsmen who genuinely care about their work and the buildings they restore. Based in Cardiff, we have grown from a small specialist outfit into one of the region's most trusted names in lime-based construction and restoration.

Our journey began when our founder, a time-served plasterer trained in both modern and traditional techniques, recognised a growing need for authentic lime rendering expertise in the Cardiff area and across South Wales. Too many period properties were being damaged by inappropriate cement-based renders and mortars, trapping moisture within walls, causing structural deterioration and destroying the character of historic buildings.

We set out to change that. Today, we offer a comprehensive range of lime rendering, lime plastering, heritage restoration and external wall insulation services to homeowners, landlords, architects, conservation officers and building contractors throughout Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas.

Our Philosophy

We believe that buildings should be treated with respect. Every property has a story, and we see our role as custodians of that story, preserving and enhancing the fabric of buildings for future generations. Lime-based materials are inherently sympathetic to traditional construction methods. They flex with the building, allow moisture to pass through harmlessly, and develop a beautiful patina over time that cement-based products can never replicate.

Our approach is rooted in understanding. Before we lift a trowel, we take the time to assess each building thoroughly, understanding its construction history, identifying any issues with dampness or structural movement, and recommending the most appropriate lime-based solution. This might be a traditional lime render using NHL 3.5 or NHL 5, a hot-mixed lime mortar for a heritage project, or a breathable EWI system for a property requiring improved thermal performance.

Our Team

Our team is our greatest asset. Every member of the Lime Rendering team has been carefully selected for their skill, experience and dedication to quality. Our renderers and plasterers are fully trained in lime application techniques, including traditional multi-coat lime rendering, lime plastering with lime putty and hydraulic lime, and specialist heritage restoration methods. Many hold NVQ qualifications in plastering and rendering, and several have completed advanced courses in lime technology with organisations such as the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and the Building Limes Forum.

We invest heavily in ongoing training and professional development, ensuring our team stays abreast of the latest developments in lime technology, conservation best practice and building science. This commitment to continuous improvement means that when you choose Lime Rendering, you are choosing a team that combines centuries-old craftsmanship with a modern understanding of building physics.

Quality and Standards

Quality is not negotiable. We use only the finest lime products from trusted British and European manufacturers, including Singleton Birch, Ty-Mawr Lime, St Astier and Baumit. Every batch of lime mortar and render is mixed on site to precise specifications, ensuring consistency, workability and long-term performance. We never cut corners, never rush a job and never compromise on materials.

Traditional plastering techniques

Our work is fully guaranteed, and we provide comprehensive aftercare guidance to ensure your lime render or plaster ages beautifully and performs as intended. We also carry full public liability insurance and can provide references from previous clients upon request.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. Lime is one of the most environmentally friendly building materials available. It requires significantly less energy to produce than Portland cement, and as lime mortars and renders cure, they reabsorb CO2 from the atmosphere through carbonation. By choosing lime-based products, you are making a positive contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry.

We also prioritise the use of local and recycled aggregates wherever possible, minimise waste on site and recycle all packaging materials. Our commitment to environmental responsibility extends beyond materials to our working practices, and we are proud to be playing our part in promoting sustainable construction in South Wales and beyond.
